Bowl 1517 Oak

This bowl was about 200 mm in diameter upon completion.

I made this as a thank you to our old nextdoor neighbour for hosting us for some Christmas drinks.

This blank came out of a bulk bag I’d bought from eBay. The bowl itself was made on 22nd December 2015.

The smell from the lathe was wonderful! Such a sweet smell.

The lighting shows up some of the tool marks here – I later sanded these away and re-sharpened my tools.

There were no such issues on the back.

I think the grain pattern here is very pretty. It’s a shame the blank wasn’t cut 5 degrees shallower to make the rings parallel to the bowl, but this gives it a nice fluidity and continuity for the eye to follow.
